University of Nebraska-Lincoln
Extension 4-H, in partnership with NET Television, is creating
teams of youth from across the state to help with the digital
transition. Team activities may include: helping the public become
aware of the DTV transition through presentations or set meetings,
distributing information/brochures on the converter box program
or, in general, helping anyone in their community better understand
the change in technology.
What is the DTV transition?
At midnight on February
17, 2009, television stations across the United States will change
from broadcasting in analog to digital. This transition will provide
a clearer picture, more programming options and emergency personnel
more airwave space to use.
You will have three
options as you prepare for this transition:
- You can keep your
analog TV and buy a converter box
- Buy a new TV with
a digital tuner
- Pay for cable,
satellite or another TV service

Once you join the
team, you will have the opportunity to participate in training. This training will help you learn more about
the digital transition including who, what, when, where and why.
You can find information links and resources at the bottom of
this page. You can use this information in your local community
to set up appointments or to contact the local media. After hearing
back from people in their community, you will set up a time for
an educational program to help them make the transition.
