“The ESI curriculum delivered through 4-H Clubs, schools and other youth organizations is a significant opportunity to reach Nebraska’s young people and help them explore opportunities that they can create for themselves with the support of their community.  What makes ESI unique is that it is focused on age levels where we can have the greatest impact in helping youth shape their life ambitions and that it links with the vast 4-H infrastructure and programs in 110 interest areas from livestock production to textiles to photography.”
                                - Craig Schroeder, HTC Executive Committee

HomeTown Competitiveness provides a framework for rural communities to help them identify reachable goals and strategies focused on the four pillars of reversing rural decline.

HTC is a comprehensive approach to long-term rural community sustainability. This approach goes beyond the traditional tunnel vision of economic development. HTC helps the community to focus on four interrelated strategies that depend on each other for ultimate success.

The four strategic areas of HTC are:

  • Developing Leadership
  • Energizing Entrepreneurs
  • Engaging Youth
  • Charitable Giving
