The
Nebraska 4-H Foundation is thrilled to announce the Nebraska 4-H
Geocaching Program! The use of GPS for 'treasure hunting' has
sparked an interest in geocaching among 4-H youth across Nebraska.
The goal of the program is to establish a successful county and
club-based interactive geocaching program.
Each
county in Nebraska has been presented a 4-H cachebox by the Nebraska
4-H Foundation. Individuals/groups from other counties, states,
or countries can locate these cacheboxes by the GPS coordinates
posted on www.geocaching.com.
With the popularity and usefulness of GPS systems, geocaching
provides the opportunity for an educational activity for the 4-H
program -- and a fairly simple way for counties across Nebraska
to begin their involvement with this new form of technology!
Below
are a few of the caches that have been placed -- using your GPS
unit, see if you can find all the following 4-H caches in these
Nebraska counties . . .

4-H Travel Bugs
Arnold
the Nebraska 4-H Travelbug
Arnold,
the Nebraska 4-H Travel Bug, will be in hog heaven if he is able
to travel between the 4-H cacheboxes across the state of Nebraska!
Each county across Nebraska will soon have a 4-H Foundation GPS
Geocache box hidden within their county. The other Nebraska 4-H
caches are located across the state are listed above. To learn
more about his travels, log onto Arnold's
website.
Lincopher,
the 4-H Hound
Lincopher,
the 4-H Hound, is a travel bug who was born in Lincoln County.
His goal is to travel to a cache in every county across Nebraska
as quickly as possible. Seeing all of Nebraska before he returns
to his home in North Platte will really give his friends something
to howl about! As he travels across the state, please log the
county he is found in. To learn more about his travels, log onto
Lincopher's
website.
Lincopher2
In January
of 2005, Lincopher's cousin, Lincopher2, hitch-hiked to the South
Pole. To learn more about his travels, log onto Lincopher2's
website. Below are photos from his adventure:
Milvia the NE Furball
Milvia,
the NE Furball, is a Nebraska 4-H Fluffy Cat Travelbug and is
on her way to travel through South Africa as an international
cache exchange travelbug. Here Milva is pictured in front of Mushroom
Rock where the sandstone rocks have been carved by water and wind
over millenia. The area was once a desert which was covered by
volcanic rock forming sandstone. To
learn more about her travels, log onto Milva's
website.
