About the Nebraska 4-H Youth Multimedia Team

Purpose
To engage youth in utilizing multimedia technologies to promote the educational opportunities occurring within the University of Nebraska—Lincoln Extension 4-H Program. 

Membership Composition

  • Youth Multimedia Membership
    • Approximately 12 youth members, ages 14-18 (by January 1) from across the state of Nebraska.
    • 4-H membership is required.
    • Members must be able to participate in four of the six meetings.
    • Members will be selected through a competitive application process each year.  (See Membership Selection.)
  • Multimedia Mentors
    • Approximately 3 mentors, ages 19-22 (by January 1)
    • Previous 4-H experience suggested
    • Mentors will be selected through a competitive application process each year.  (See Membership Selection.) 
  • UNL Extension Staff Members
    • 4-H Action Team, Communications and Expressive Arts Workgroup
    • 4-H Action Team, Science and Technology Workgroup

The 2008 Multimedia Team Fact Sheet contains all information regarding the Multimedia Team.

Multimedia Youth Membership
Youth who are interested in being a member of the Nebraska 4-H Youth Multimedia Team must complete the three-part application.  The application includes the following: 

1) Online Application Form
2) Creative Application Questionnaire
3) Nomination Signature Form signed by the applicant, their parent/guardian, and a UNL Extension county staff member

Multimedia Mentors
Individuals who are interested in being a mentor of the Nebraska 4-H Youth Multimedia Team must complete the two-part application.  The application includes the following: 

1) Online Application Form
2) Creative Application Questionnaire

Youth Multimedia Team membership and Multimedia Mentors will be selected by UNL Extension Staff Members.  

Overall Responsibilities

  • Establish goals to gain new skills, serve communities by completing projects, and showcase to others emerging technologies in the area of multimedia communication.
  • Promote the life skills that youth across the state are gaining through the Nebraska 4-H Program through various multimedia forms (text, audio, still images, animation, video, interactivity).

Member Responsibilities and Expectations

  • Seek environment to participate in the online virtual meetings; a computer with high bandwidth Internet connection, as well as a phone line, will be needed to participate.  Members must be willing to seek the resources available to allow them to participate in the virtual meetings to be held by the group; if a member does not have access to these resources within their home, they may potentially obtain them by making arrangements with a local public libraries, schools, or UNL Extension Office. 
  • Attend four of the six scheduled Multimedia Team meetings.
  • Serve as a representative voice for youth in your club, county and district.
  • Complete assignments and duties delegated to you during meetings. 
  • Respond as appropriate to all Multimedia Team communication.
  • Participate in planning and implementation of special events (ex. Nebraska State Fair).

Member Support

  • Leadership and team building activities.
  • Networking opportunities with Multimedia Mentors and UNL Extension staff that have similar interest areas.
  • Technology training and support for approved projects.

Meetings

Meetings

Meetings will typically be held six times per year.  Video/phone conferencing, e-mail, and additional forms of technology (ex. Breeze, Blackboard, etc.) will be used to conduct the virtual meetings.  In addition, members from the Multimedia Team will be asked to participate in an optional, in-person special project during the Nebraska State Fair.

Members will be provided with instructions on how to participate in the virtual meetings.
