Food Supply Confidence
Nebraska 4-H works to ensure that Nebraska youth have a knowledge and appreciation of Nebraska's largest industry: agriculture. Through food supply confidence programs, youth gain an understanding of where their food comes from, develop positive attitudes and interests regarding their local agriculture, advocate for agriculture in Nebraska, and become informed consumers who advocate for agriculture in Nebraska.
Through food supply confidence programs youth develop important life skills, including:
- Wise use of resources
Signature program efforts around food supply confidence include the Ag-Citing Science school enrichment program delivered to nearly 1,200 youth and Agricultural Literacy Festivals which reach more than 7,000 young people. Of the youth in these programs:
YOUTH CAN CORRECTLY IDENTIFY THE SOURCES OF MILK, VEGETABLES, PROTEINS, AND GRAINS
YOUTH KNOW AGRICULTURE IS THE LARGEST INDUSTRY IN NEBRASKA
YOUTH CAN IDENTIFY SOMEONE THEY KNOW WHO HAS AN AGRICULTURE CAREER
The Nebraska 4-H Youth Development program strives to empower youth to reach their full potential working and learning in partnership with caring adults. To identify the impact that the Nebraska 4-H program is making in the lives of youth ages 5-18, various research studies have been conducted across Nebraska and the nation.
