Achievement Level II (ages 12 & up):

PREAMBLE TO SHOOTING SPORTS ACHIEVEMENT LEVELS

Shooting Sports achievement levels within 4-H create guideposts for families to measure skills acquired by youth. Youth desiring a well balanced 4-H experience can use these achievement levels as success markers. Recognizing that every youth may not seek the entire 4-H experience, these levels are not a mandatory requirement. Youth enrolling in Shooting Sports for multiple years need to have a variety of events.

Achievement levels offer an alternative for youth wishing to set goals. Youth can begin to understand how to set goals using time management and leadership. These are lifetime skills. These levels will help volunteers and project members begin a curriculum. Each level features personal development activity. A formal testing of knowledge relating specifically to the discipline is here. A document helps evaluate the progress and keeps a time line on when these achievements are completed. Rewards are suggested at each level's conclusion. Each level has been written by experienced certified 4-H Shooting Sports adult leaders and edited by competent Extension Educators. Their philosophy of making shooting a partner with personal development, leadership, travel experiences, scholarship, and safety is evident with each level.

You will have your own take on which parts to use, revise, or disregard. When using this format, being creative to adapt them to your own circumstances is highly encouraged. Adjustments are always the key to keeping 4-H relevant and responsive.

Feel free to contact the Richardson County Cooperative Extension Office, Courthouse, 1700 Stone, Falls City, NE 68355 or e-mail ghopp1@unl.edu for questions or comments relating to these levels. Let's continue our motto "To Make the Best Better".
