ALUMNI-
The Nebraska 4-H Foundation and Nebraska
Farm Bureau announce an excellent way to honor outstanding 4-H volunteers
in Nebraska. The Nebraska Farm Bureau Salute
to Excellence Awards sponsored by the Nebraska 4-H
Foundation recognizes 4-H volunteers for the work of the individuals
in the club and community service work of the entire club. Monetary
awards will be presented to the Nebraska Volunteer of the Year selected
for Lifetime Achievement, and to the Nebraska Volunteer of the Year
with less than 10 years of experience, by the Nebraska 4-H Foundation.
In each category, two additional Volunteer Leaders will be recognized
with cash awards presented to each. The winners will be recognized
at a statewide Nebraska Farm Bureau Event, held in early December.
The two Nebraska winners will be the State’s nominees for
the Regional/National Salute to Excellence award.
NATIONAL
4-H DAIRY CONFERENCE - (See full description) Any qualified,
interested individuals may submit applications (not counted in the
two-area limit) for the National Dairy Conference. NOTE! Applications
are now sent directly to the Animal Science Department by June 15
of the year of the conference. A special selection committee will
review applications and select those to attend National Dairy Conference.
NATIONAL CONFERENCES &
OTHER EVENTS - (See full description)
Each county may submit video applications for three 4-H'ers for
state competition (not counted in the individual's two-area limit);
County level selection is at their discretion, but suggested base
is the "Building Your 4-H Record", with special emphasis on leadership
abilities and/or activities. State selection is based on a personal
interview recorded/submitted on videotape by the deadline selected.
Top applicants will be ranked in order, so events will be awarded
as they become available. Once a person has earned a travel scholarship
for National 4-H Conference, they are no longer eligible to apply
in this overall category.
OTHER
RECOGNITION OPPORTUNITIES - There are many opportunities
to provide recognition to 4-H members from various companies and organizations,
such as the "I Dare You" award, or Collegiate Community Grants. Information
regarding these opportunities is sent to the counties in separate
mailings from the donors and/or National 4-H Council.
INCENTIVES AVAILABLE FOR 4-H GROUPS
VOLUNTEER RECOGNITION OPPORTUNITIES - There are opportunities
for leaders to attend various forums and events on the state, regional
and national levels. Details are in the 4-Volunteers
section of the website. |

INCENTIVES FOR 4-H ALUMNI
The Nebraska

Since
the official beginning of the 4-H program, over one million youth
have participated in Nebraska 4-H. The
4-H Alumni Recognition program provides recognition for 4-H alumni
whose contributions to society exemplify effective citizenship and
leadership, success in their chosen careers, a sustaining interest
in 4-H and similar worthy community endeavors. Recognition of former
4-H participants also encourages them to continue their interest
in and cooperation with 4-H, and provides youth with living examples
of dependable, purposeful citizenship.
Any
adult whose life has been
touched by 4-H as a participant or as a volunteer and who
has an outstanding record
of accomplishments relating to community involvement, citizenship
and has achieved success in their chosen field is eligible. While
the adult does not have to reside in the county or state, some of
their past or present 4-H experience should have been in the county
submitting the application. Paid employees of Cooperative Extension,
National 4-H Council and the Nebraska 4-H Development Foundation
are not eligible for nomination. This limitation does not include
volunteer 4-H leaders unless they are also employed by one of the
above organizations.
Those
nominated may be successful community leaders who are not presently
active in the 4-H program. Outstanding 4-H volunteer leaders may
be nominated. However, this
program is not designed for volunteer leaders exclusively.
Each
county may submit one application for district competition by the
designated date on the Summary form, with two selected from each district
for state competition where the top two individuals will be selected
for recognition. Application
Requirements:
See the Salute
to Excellence Awards.
Limitations:
Counties
should recognize as many alumni as possible. Alumni currently residing
out of the state follow the same application process as those residing
in Nebraska. Once a 4-H alumni receives state recognition, he/she
is no longer eligible for state competition. State and/or national
winners will be honored at a state event as per arrangements made
with individuals. |

EVENT VOUCHERS
4-H
Event Vouchers are a way for private contributors to support the
Nebraska 4-H by providing incentives to outstanding 4-H members.
The
following stipulations for utilizing the voucher are printed on
the reverse side of the voucher:
1. ONLY the ORIGINAL voucher may be redeemed for the value stated.
2. Voucher must be redeemed within 18 months of the issue date.
3.
Vouchers are transferable to any 4-H member. Recipient must make
note of transfer on the original voucher.
4. Vouchers may be redeemed at any Nebraska Cooperative Extension
Office, 4-H Camp, 4-H Center or the Nebraska 4-H Development Foundation.
5. When redeemed (at the locations listed in #4) the 4-H voucher
will be accepted as a personal check. The original voucher will
then be submitted to the Nebraska 4-H Development Foundation for
reimbursement.
6. Vouchers may be utilized for 4-H event (registration fees,
meals, etc.) or for 4-H items from National 4-H Supply.
7. Vouchers cannot
be redeemed for cash only. However, should the cost of the 4-H
event or supplies cost less than the face value of the voucher,
change should be provided. The redeeming facility will be reimbursed
for the full value of the voucher.
8. Vouchers may be redeemed through the Nebraska 4-H Development
Foundation for credit/cash where recipients are attending out-of-
state events (IFYE, National 4-H Congress, National Judging Events.
etc.) Vouchers cannot
be presented to any organization, such as National 4-H Council,
in lieu of cash.
Extension
staff in the counties will be notified when vouchers have been issued
for a 4-H member from their county (via copy of the letter.) As
with any check, NO COPIES WILL BE ACCEPTED FOR REIMBURSEMENT.
Vouchers
may be transferred, as we realize that individuals may be toward
the end of the 4-H career and not have an opportunity to redeem
the voucher at another 4-H event. While they may not directly benefit
from the voucher, a family member or close friends may, and the
incentive has not been completely forfeited. |
