What is the Nebraska 4-H Youth Curriculum Committee

Our curriculum development process involves input from youth on topics of relevance for today. The Nebraska 4-H Youth Curriculum Committee provides direction and support from the distinct perspective of 4-H youth for curriculum development, marketing, and evaluation. YCC members propose ideas for new 4-H projects, review existing manuals and suggest changes, give presentations, and participate in teambuilding and leadership development activities. Members participate in two retreats a year and several conference calls.

The team is made up of youth ages 14-22. Members serve a 12 month term and can be considered for up to four consecutive terms of service. There is a limit on the number of youth that can serve on the committee, so those interested are encouraged to apply early.

Believe it or not, the Nebraska 4-H Youth Curriculum Committee has been around for five years! Over the past five years we have had a total of 37 members!

Here is a taste of what the YCC has experienced in the last 5 years!

• Proposing ideas for new 4-H projects
• Working with new technology
• Spring retreats with teambuilding and leadership development
• Reviewing several different 4-H manuals and providing ideas for future changes
• Testing out new CD ROMs
• Getting a "first peek" at new project manuals and voting on new cover designs
• Naming a new project manual and receiving recognition inside the front cover
• Giving presentations and creating booths to promote new 4-H projects
• Helping with the former 4-H Cyber Fair at county fairs and at the State Fair
• Getting involved with new activities, such as Diamond Clover and ATV
• Assisting with website design
