County Contest 

Awards and Recognition

County speech/PSA ribbons for Junior, Intermediate, and Senior divisions are sponsored by the Rural Radio Network and can be ordered from Peggy Jeffries at the State 4-H Office.

County Quota

Each county may send up to three (3) contestants per age division (Junior, Intermediate, and Senior) in both Speech and Public Service Announcement (PSA) categories to the regional contest.

All contestants in the 60 second PSA category must compete in their designated regional contest. Those competing in the Speech category may compete in only one (1) regional contest of their choice.

Regional Contest Registration

Youth should submit an Entry Form and one (1) copy of their Speech or PSA outline when registering for the regional or state contests.

Registration is $8.00 per speech or PSA. Checks should be payable to the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.

Regional registration should be submitted by a UNL Extension 4-H staff member to the appropriate regional contest coordinator. Please see the Public Speaking Contest public web page for regional contest dates, locations, and coordinator contact information.

State Contest Entry Information

Registration for the State Public Speaking Contest are due by August 1 to Cathy Johnston at 114 Agricultural Hall, PO Box 830700, Lincoln, NE 68583-0700. The entry form completed at the Regional Public Speaking Contest and three (3) copies of the Speech or PSA Outline must be submitted for each speech or PSA entered when registering for the state contest. Registration for state competition must be submitted by the UNL Extension 4-H Staff member who served as Regional Contest Coordinator.
