Big Red Camps Frequently Asked Questions

What ages can attend? (change from previous years)

  • Big Red Camps are open to youth grades 9th-12th during the 2024-25 academic school year. Some Camp Directors allow current 8th graders, but this is on a case-by-case

    basis.

What if I have special medical needs?

  • Notify the Program Director and Assistant Camp Director. They will want to know what accommodations you need and will work to meet your needs. A health aide will be on duty to distribute medications and handle situations that arise.

What are the camp dates? (change from previous years)

  • Check-in will be Sunday, June 9, from 5:30-7:00 p.m.
  • Big Red Camps activities occur from June 9th - June 14th
  • Check-out will be Friday, June 14th by 4:00PM

What camp sessions are being offered this year?

  • These are the intended camp sessions. Changes may occur depending on registration (for example, if no one signs up for a session, it may be removed from the schedule, etc.).

When is registration?

Space is limited and camps will fill on a “first-come-first served” basis. Each camp offered has a specific number of openings. A waitlist option is available.

All housing and food will be provided for all participants throughout the duration of the camps. If you have a preferred roommate request, submit that information at the time

of your registration.

Early Bird Tuition Deadline is April 5th

Regular Tuition Deadline is May 3rd

Late Tuition Deadline is May 20th

• You will receive an email that requires a response for health and additional information required for camp attendance following completion of the Big Red Camps registration.

It should be filled out no later than Friday, May 24th

You will receive an email including a Big Red Camps handbook with details about what to bring to camp and a schedule of events after shortly following the close of late

registration. This will also be posted on the Big Red Camps webpage.

Are scholarships available?

  • Scholarships are for camp registration fees only and do not cover the cost of transportation or other expenses.
  • All scholarships must be awarded prior to registration. Any scholarships awarded after the registration process will not be applied to current registrations.
  • General Scholarships can be used to attend ANY Big Red Camp session. (they cover a portion of the camp tuition fees). A limited number of these are available.
  • Additional scholarships may be available for specific camps and may have separate application processes.

Are refunds available if I have to cancel my camp participation?

  • Refunds will be issued up until the Late Tuition deadline (May 20, 20024). All refunds issued prior to the Late Tuition Deadline will be charged a non-refundable fee of $100. No refunds will be issued after the Late Tuition deadline.

Can camp participants arrive early or late?

  • If arriving early, it’s possible to accommodate a Saturday evening arrival. This means the camp participant would stay on campus through Guest Services. There would be an additional cost to you for this arrangement.

  • If arriving late, a phone number will be provided to you. When you are close to arrival, text that number. Camp Staff will make sure your child is checked in and will work to get your child to the location the camper needs to be at.

Is there transportation available from the airport to the camp?

  • Possibly, but you will need to contact the Program Director. A shuttle may be provided so that camp participants who are flying in can be transported together from the airport to the camp location. Please note your travel arrangements on the health and additional information form so we can plan according. We can work to arrange one shuttle vehicle to bring them in together.

Is transportation available to the airport after camp has ended?

  • Possibly; let us know if you require this and we will see if we can provide it.

Whom should I contact with other questions?

  • Assistant Camp Director, Claire Swanson, can field your questions. She will provide you with the answers you seek, or if needed, go find the answers for you. Submit your questions to the BigRedCamps@unl.edu email address.
