Nebraska 4-H Youth Development is uniquely positioned to provide undergraduate students with hands-on, real-world experiences in positive youth development. By interning with Nebraska 4-H, student can expect to make a meaningful impact in the lives of youth all across Nebraska. Interns develop and deliver significant statewide and county-based educational programs for youth participants in in-person and online settings. Working in partnership with Nebraska Extension 4-H Youth Development professionals from across the state, interns participate in training and professional development opportunities to ensure a quality educational experience for youth participants. Participating and assisting with research in the area of Youth Development is also a focus area.
The following opportunities are available to students interested in gaining hands-on, real-world experience in positive youth development.
+YD (Positive Youth Develompent) Intern
Working in partnership with Nebraska Extension 4-H Youth Development professionals, a team of +YD (Positive Youth Development) Student Interns in the 4-H Thrive Lab: Advancing Youth Development will:
- Deliver significant statewide educational programs of the semester.
- Complete work related to the priorities of the Nebraska 4-H Youth Development department.
- Participate and assist with Youth Development research.
- Engage in training and professional development opportunities to learn about the best practices of positive youth development and to ensure a quality educational experience for youth participants.

Engineering Pathways Mentor
As an Engineering Pathways mentor in this program, you will:
- Lead small online communities of high school-aged facilitators in weekly meetings, supporting these youth in developing their instructional skills, particularly in the areas of science and engineering.
- Support Program Instructors with understanding STEM content material.
- Participate in training and professional development opportunities to ensure a quality program for you, the afterschool facilitators, and the youth program participants.
- Conduct training for the high-school facilitators via zoom to train them on how to teach the curriculum.
- Participate in weekly meetings with other Mentors and the Project Lead to give updates on their trainings/meetings with the high school facilitators.
