State Fair 4-H Schedule 2024

Learn about and explore 4-H projects from across Nebraska. Projects in science, consumer management, expressive arts, foods and nutrition, horticulture, photography, and many more highlight the hard work and accomplishments of 4-H youth throughout the year.

The 4-H Presentation Contest develops communication skills in youth. Through the contest, youth have an opportunity to teach others about the skills they have learned in 4-H by developing and delivering a "show and tell" presentation.

The 4-H Fashion Show recognizes 4-H members who have excelled in clothing projects and exhibit skills which apply knowledge of fibers and fabrics, wardrobe selection, clothing construction, or comparison shopping, fashion interpretation and understanding of style, good grooming and poise in front of others, and modeling and presentation of themselves and their garments.

Youth participating in the Quilts of Valor project utilize sewing skills gained in the 4-H Clothing and Textiles project to complete a quilted blanket and donate it to a service member or veteran.

In this interactive 4-H Tech Changemakers project, teens will be assisting adult participants in building their knowledge and skills related to digital literacy. Topics will vary but could include communication, digital literacy, safety and security, and workforce development.

The Weed & Grass Identification Contest tests participants’ knowledge about plants that are important in pasture management.

The Horticulture Identification Contest tests participants’ knowledge about plants.

4-H foresters learn practical forest management skills through participation in the 4-H Tree ID contest. Learning these skills helps our leaders of tomorrow be prepared to deal with environmental issues in the future.

What is it? This is the first question most people ask when they encounter an insect. Participants in the 4-H Insect Identification contest learn how to identify insects and learn about the biology and habits of insects.

Come and celebrate the accomplishments of all 4-Hers who competed in identification contests through the day.

Interact with 4-H youth demonstrating healthy decision making at the 4-H Culinary Challenge. Contestants create a menu, prepare one food item, and choose an appropriate theme for their occasion, all while expressing their food, nutrition, and food safety knowledge during a live interview with a judge at the contest.

Youth engaged in the Robotics Showcase will demonstrate their robots programming and/or show a video of their robot performing programmed functions. This is an interactive experience where members will be judged in a live setting.

The 4-H Chicken BBQ Contest is a national qualifying competition to showcase cooking and presentation skills in youth. Through the contest, youth cook chicken thighs using a charcoal grill and are judged on cooking skills, including food safety, appearance, and taste. They also give an illustrated talk showing their knowledge of the chicken industry in the U.S.

This year's Nebraska 4-H Volunteer Award recipients will be publicly recognized and formally presented with their awards.
