Nebraska 4-H provides youth with various opportunities to showcase their learning and skills in the area of visual arts. One way Nebraska 4-H does this is by allowing certain youth to have their art showcased in the Loft Gallery at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The Loft Gallery features 4-H’ers artwork selected from over 600 entries at the Nebraska State Fair. The 4-H visual art projects included in the showcase were completed this year, but they demonstrate mastery developed over many years in the project. These pieces were selected based on creativity, originality, and attention to detail. The show features a variety of mediums and techniques.
One certain individual, LilyAnn Willing, who is a 4-H participant in Burt County, was selected for this showcase. LilyAnn’s artwork project features watercolored jelly fish. When asked about this piece LillyAnn said, “I didn’t really think much of it.” However, she was very happy when her piece was pulled to be represented at the University. She loves watercolor and decided to give this project a try and is very proud of her piece. LilyAnn also loves expressing herself through her artwork and this particular piece was based off of the color wheel. When asked about 4-H she says, “I’ve learned so many life skills and I will be able to support myself now that I’m getting older.”
This exhibit will be on display through December 19, 2025. The Loft Gallery is located on the third floor of the East Campus Union at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. To learn more about The Loft Gallery, and Nebraska 4-H, visit 4h.unl.edu.
